Physiotherapy

Our Approach

At Adaptability Therapy, our dynamic Physio’s understand that each individual they see is unique and will develop a tailored treatment or intervention plan suited to you. Physiotherapists can make meaningful improvement in the lives of their clients, by improving their physical functioning, health and wellbeing and building their capacity. Our team is experienced in working with people who have a broad range of conditions, including physical, neurological, intellectual or psychosocial disabilities, following surgery or an acute illness or those experiencing poor movement, balance or motion.  Often our physios will treat any combination of these together using a holistic approach. Physios are also able to assist people at risk of or experiencing falls, with advice around falls prevention and safety.

Our Physio’s and Occupational Therapists work closely together to ensure optimal outcomes for their clients.

Hydrotherapy

Hydrotherapy, or Aquatic Physiotherapy, is the use of water for therapy, rehabilitation, exercise, relaxation and more.  Exercising in water utilises the unique properties of water, including decreased gravity, buoyancy and warmer temperatures of around 32 degrees celsius.  These properties are used by the Physiotherapist to enhance the recovery and rehabilitation of clients with a wide range of conditions and provide a unique environment to maintain health, wellbeing and fitness.

During Hydrotherapy sessions, water can be used to assist a movement, for example a shoulder with weak muscles can be moved by allowing the limb to effectively float. Water can assist people with mobility issues to move more easily, or can be used to resist movement to effectively strengthen weak and unstable joints. A range of simple equipment such as noodles, floats or water dumbbells, obtainable with NDIS funding upon recommendation of an appropriate allied health professional, can be used to work on specific strengthening activities.

There are many benefits to hydrotherapy. It can help decrease pain and swelling, and increase function, strength and range of movement. It can also help with mood and sleep, fitness and weight loss.

Physiotherapy

Hydrotherapy is frequently used at Adaptability Therapy for our NDIS clients, supporting them to achieve their goals to be more independent and active in a range of functional areas. Our Therapists have experience in a range of hydrotherapy treatment areas including:

  • Pain management
  • Rehabilitation
  • Mobility & balance
  • Strength & core stability
  • Fitness & reconditioning

Neurological rehabilitation:

  • Spinal cord injury
  • Acquired brain injury
  • Stroke
  • Cerebral palsy
  • Multiple sclerosis
  • Parkinson’s disease
  • Dystonia/muscle imbalance

Arthritis management and rehabilitation

Hydrotherapy has been a popular remedy for arthritis for centuries. Exercising in warm water works to unload the joints in a reduced gravity state. Hydrotherapy has many positive benefits for people with a wide range of conditions, such as:

  • Rheumatoid arthritis
  • Osteoarthritis
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Osteoporosis
  • Juvenile rheumatoid arthritis
  • Polymyalgia rheumatica
  • Bursitis/tendinitis.

Please contact us to discuss your specific health issues and arrange a consultation.
